‹Pieds noirs› und ‹Vertriebene›
Erinnerungskultur zwischen Partikularität und Zentralität

The German refugees that had to leave the eastern German territories after World War II belonged to the German Nation, just as the ‹Pieds Noirs›, the French who had lived in Algeria until decolonization, were French citizens. Our contribution seeks to compare their political and personal situation after they had to flee a country they considered their own. Oscillating between their historical and geographical particularity on one hand and their national identity that is centred on a historically grown belonging to their motherland on the other hand, these two populations have a certain number of phenomena in common that we want to analyse.
